Zoning, Property & Administrative Law

For over 35 years the litigation attorneys at CHWM have represented municipalities, municipal boards, and municipal employees. We provide representation with respect to a wide range of municipal issues including zoning, permitting, taxation, siting of sanitary landfills, transfer stations, incinerators and other facilities, water and sewer issues, zoning, uniform procurement, municipal contracts, and municipal liability claims. We regularly prosecute and defend litigation cases on behalf of our municipal clients, and advise them on the unique issues that public agencies face.

Our expertise in municipal law informs and improves our ability to assist private clients in zoning, permitting and real estate litigation matters. We represent clients both before local zoning boards and in litigation in the Land Court and Superior Court. We also assist clients in disputes concerning boundaries, adverse possession, breach of purchase and sale agreements, commercial and residential leases.

Additionally, the firm has a long history of representing individuals and corporations before state boards and agencies. We have a diverse administrative law practice which includes providing legal and strategic advice to businesses and individuals appearing before municipal boards and state agencies including the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, the Division of Administrative Law Appeals, the Department of Labor and the Attorney General’s Office. We are often called up on by other lawyers to represent them in administrative matters and procedures before the Board of Bar Overseers.
